The Republic of South Africa with its GDP of US $ 277 BN (2009) is the largest African economy and the most important business partner for Germany in Africa. More than 600 German enterprises are already active within different sectors in South Africa. The stock of German direct investment accounted for approx. € 4 BN in 2008. The German – South African trade reached a volume of more than € 10 BN at the end of 2009.
Germany continues to be the second most important trading partner for South Africa. It is purchaser of 7.2% (2008) of all exports from South Africa, while 11, 3% (2008) of all imports to South Africa originate from Germany. Imports as well as exports to South Africa have constantly increased during recent years.
During the two days of last years conference in Cape Town the delegates received detailed information about recent developments in South Africa and also had the opportunity to make personal contact with high ranking representatives from private business and political institutions.
